Youtube

Youtube

 Description

Youtube has become one of the most popular sites on the web. Whether for leisure videos or for information and support, it’s often the first place people look for advice. YouTube is all about sharing, right?

On the face of it, videos that feature young cats and dogs or babies, maybe entitled “Adventures with My Baby Cat” are about sharing. But for all the enjoyment of watching cute animals, there’s a serious side to Youtube. Too often, there’s videos showing abusive behavior towards animals or creepy shots of animals who aren’t in a cute or playful mood. Even more concerning are the disturbing videos of adults bullying or terrifying animals in videos intended for children. Finding video content that shouldn’t be shared is tricky at best. It’s often difficult to figure out where to find good animal advice without needing to scroll through hundreds of videos that show terrible behavior and moments of cruelty. The YouTube search option in the video store menu only goes so far. I’m not here to condemn the websites where these disturbing videos live. I’m not even here to say whether or not video producers should be held accountable for showing abusive behavior. But just in case you haven’t checked out YouTube or similar video sites, it might be worth taking a look. It might be hard to believe that anyone would be able to share videos that aren’t very good, but on Youtube, people do it all the time. So maybe look out for a kitten or a dog who seems tired or off-putting. Maybe take a look at videos that appear to be shot at a zoo or a pet store. Perhaps you’ll find videos of dogs or cats acting in an unnatural or fearful way. Youtube and other video sites are meant for sharing. It might be time to start viewing the videos from the source. Do you find video content on the internet disturbing? Or do you agree that most videos can’t be judged until they are shared?
